About DU School of Open Learning

The School of Open Learning (SOL), a part of the Campus of Open Learning and formerly known as the School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, was established in 1962 under the University of Delhi. As one of the pioneers of distance education in India, the School marked the beginning of an alternate mode of higher education with just 900 students in its first year. By 2006–07, enrolment had grown to over two lakh students, with many securing top positions in their respective disciplines

Admissions to SOL programs follow the norms of the University of Delhi, with examinations conducted by the University itself. Degrees awarded carry the same recognition as those from other constituent colleges and departments, with no difference in curriculum

To expand its reach, the School established the South Study Centre at Moti Bagh in 1990–91, and is now working to open additional centres in the Eastern and Western regions of Delhi.

SOL offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Humanities, and Commerce. Learning is supported through printed study material, Personal Contact Programs, and a well-stocked library. Experienced faculty at the main campus remain accessible for academic support, ensuring flexible and quality education for learners.

Where will DU SOL be in 2050?

By 2050, DU SOL is set to become a global hub of flexible learning, blending digital innovation with academic excellence. Students will enjoy fully personalized, AI-powered learning experiences, access to world-class faculty online, and career-focused courses designed for the future job market. With more study centres, advanced virtual classrooms, and stronger global collaborations, DU SOL will continue to empower millions with affordable, accessible, and high-quality education—anytime, anywhere.
